Decorative fire extinguisher: protection and design in addition

Although practical, the standardfire extinguisher is often unsightly. While its presence is reassuring in places where it is mandatory, its appearance keeps it away from the interior of private homes. To remedy this, this fire safety equipment is now available as a decorative object. However, its main function remains fire protection.

Why have a fire extinguisher at soi ?

In a standard installation, the fire detector acts as an alarm. The fireextinguisher is then the first resort for extinguishing a fire. The presence of this fire protection device is life-saving if the fire is detected within a minute. If necessary, it allows a first intervention while waiting for the arrival of the emergency services.

Although private homes are not required to have a fire extinguisher, it is however strongly recommended that they be equipped with one. To avoid a disaster, it is important to remember that no one is safe from an accidental fire. The origins of a fire are multiple and are not necessarily related to the human handling of a flame source.

The different categories of fire

Lights are classified differently according to their origin. For the house, only four categories of fire are selected:

  • Class A: This concerns dry fires caused by the combustion of embers (paper, cardboard, etc.)  ;
  • Class B : these are fat fires, caused by the combustion of materials liquéfiables ;
  • Class C: this is characteristic of the fires of gaz ;
  • Class K (FPA standard) or F: the fires come from cooking devices.

The most common causes of home fires

Fire starts related to electrical installations account for more than 25% of domestic fires. They are most often due to anelectrical malfunction or a short circuit. The risk becomes greater when several devices are connected to a multiple socket outlet.

Heat appliances, such as halogen lighting, radiators and boilers, can also cause fires. They pose a hazard when installed near flammable materials.

The kitchen is a room where fire starts are common. They are most often triggered by cooking appliances that have been switched off incorrectly, are faulty or simply by accident.

Children and their great curiosity can also accidentally start a fire. Therefore, it is recommended that matches and lighters should never be left within their reach.
